Introducing Japanese Folk Embroidery

  • Austin Public Library (Willie Mae Kirk Branch) 3101 Oak Springs Drive Austin, TX, 78702 United States (map)

Let’s learn about the most popular types of Japanese folk embroidery, including sashiko and kogin. Japanese embroidery uses one simple stitch combined in endless variations to create patterns and textures with simple and affordable tools. Come join us to learn about why this simple stitch is so powerful and how you can get started decorating or repairing your fabric with only a few inexpensive supplies. Fiber artist Juliann Krute will show you many examples of these techniques and teach you where to find patterns and tools so that you can get started on your own Japanese folk embroidery adventure.
