BitterSweet Art Exhibit by Samantha Lesan

Lesan says “Intuitive abstract art represents a wonderful visual language to process and express emotions beyond words. The colors and images in my mind are often influenced by nature and emotion. I tend to use earthy, gritty organic mixed media to communicate the emotional bittersweetness of life. Earthy turmeric, paprika and natural amber shellac are gritty but beautiful in their own right. The muted colors communicate sadness, while the large expressive marks communicate energy and even joy. The ways in which Lesan moves the paint are both intuitive and planned, a beautiful marriage of both control and spontaneity. More Information: https://library.georgetown.org/art/

Freeways and Highways as Functional Art Photography Exhibit by Taylor McCarrey

Everyday, we interact with massive pieces of art full of leading lines, beautiful curves, and textured design. Unfortunately, most of the time we only see them as a way to get from one place to another. Other drivers command our focus (rightfully so) and take our mind away from the design choices and artistry inherent in every road we traverse. McCarrey's hope in this exhibit is to encourage us to take in the highways and freeways around us as intentional artistic choices, and not just traffic jams waiting to happen.
